  • Transportation Issues was the theme for the meeting. Fortunately, many members from the VA Blinded Veterans Association and the Houston Low Vision Club was very good.
  • It turned out to be one on the most informative meetings we have ever had.
  • A young lady with Fort Bend Transit gave an excellent presentation of the services Fort Bend County provides. Call 866-752-TRIP for additional information.
  • Next Vernon Chambers provided information on Harris County RIDES a specialized transportation service for the elderly and disabled within Harris County. This is a subsidized program that provides point to point transportation utilizing an number of existing transportation services such as shared transportation and commercial cabs. Additional information is available by calling 713-368-RIDE.
  • A very informative discussion session on transportation took place after the presentations. The transportation discussion will continue at the August meeting which will take place at the VA next month.

Saturday - June 28, 2008

  • Attendance was excellent at our first meeting held at the VA Medical Center. Expanding the club to include the members from the Veterans organization is truly beneficial for everyone.We had a great time of fellowship and learning.
  • Tonya Mennem, OTR gave an excellent hands on demonstration of equipment that individuals with low vision can use in and about the kitchen when preparing meals.
  • Ronnie Anderson, President of the Houston Chapter of the Blinded Veterans Administration delivered and excellent presentation of his cooking techniques - Samples provided!
